Reuben is a part qualified patent attorney in the Chemical and Life sciences team, specialising predominantly in biotechnology. He started his training in-house with a leading multinational agricultural company. Reuben is therefore adept at working hand in hand with technical and commercial teams to provide pragmatic advice. During his training Reuben has gained experience in drafting and prosecution, freedom-to-operate opinions, validity and infringement analysis and assisting in opposition and appeal cases before the European Patent Office in a number of technology areas such as RNAi, genome editing and synthetic biology.
Prior to entering the profession, Reuben worked as a scientist, specialising in gastrointestinal physiology and gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Science during this time.
Reuben graduated from The University of Sheffield with a First Class Honours degree in Functional Genomics and Stem Cell Science and went on to complete a PhD in molecular and cellular biology which focused on characterising SNARE proteins in human mast cells. His PhD was a collaborative research project between The University of Sheffield and the biotechnology company, Syntaxin, and involved spending significant time conducting research at the company’s premises.
Since joining the profession, Reuben has obtained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
