Kirwin is a UK and European patent attorney working in our Electronics and Engineering department. The focus of her work is the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of electronics and telecommunications, especially consumer electronics, payment transaction systems, medical devices, cloud computing, automotive electronics, and semiconductor devices. Kirwin also advises clients on other aspects of patent protection, including freedom to operate searches, management of international patent filing strategies, and infringement opinions.
Kirwin works closely with clients ranging from SMEs and technology transfer groups to multinational companies. Having grown up in Hong Kong, Kirwin speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese and is always happy to communicate with clients in Chinese.
Kirwin graduated from Imperial College London with an honours degree in Physics, during which she studied semiconductor physics, laser technology, astrophysics, and photonics. As part of her course, she undertook a research project on the product design and prototyping based around use of commercial microprocessors. During her degree Kirwin also worked at the research group for the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, a multinational particle physics project studying neutrino oscillation.
Kirwin also has a certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
