Julie is an experienced UK and European patent attorney in our Chemical and Life Sciences team. She specialises in patents involving chemical and mechanical subject matter and in particular pharmaceuticals, medical devices and consumer goods. She has worked in a number of in-house intellectual property departments. Prior to joining Venner Shipley Julie was previously a partner at another London firm of patent and trade mark attorneys.
Julie has a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the patent process from drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications in fields that include medical devices, new materials, medical fibres, implants, polymers, alloys, sterilising and packaging technology, consumer goods, formulation chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
From her time in-house, Julie gained experience of how to use intellectual property to support a business and how to give commercially relevant advice. She has experience of contentious patent matters including multi-jurisdictional litigation, European oppositions and appeals and freedom to use opinions. She frequently represents clients directly at the EPO. Julie also has experience of validity opinions, patent landscaping and due diligence.
Julie has an honours degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
