John is a UK and European patent attorney in our Electronics and Engineering department. John has a background in physics and has been working with patents in the fields of electronics, software and engineering. He provides advice on all aspects of patent procedure, both in Europe and worldwide.
John has significant experience of obtaining patent protection for software inventions and works closely with clients to ensure that these inventions are protected in the most effective manner. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for many different types of computer-implemented invention, particularly relating to mobile devices, communications and financial trading techniques.
John also has special expertise with inventions relating to electricity generation, energy storage, fuel manufacture and object identification systems. He enjoys the diversity of these areas and has a continuing interest in engineering solutions having spent time in the automotive industry before joining the patent profession.
As well as services associated with invention capture and protection, John provides due diligence services, such as patent infringement and validity opinions, and regularly advises clients on strategies relating to third party patents and portfolio management.
John has an honours degree in physics from the University of Nottingham and holds a certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, University of London.
