Chris is a UK and European qualified patent attorney in our Electronics and Engineering department. Chris is involved with the preparation, filing and prosecution of UK, European and international patent applications in various fields such as physics, materials and software. He has also assisted with the preparation of opposition cases before the EPO. He has experience of working for a range of clients, from multinational companies to startups.
Chris graduated from the University of Bristol with a first class MSci in Chemical Physics. He then completed a PhD in Electronic Engineering at the University of Sheffield. His PhD focussed on the semiconductor alloy gallium arsenide bismide (GaAsBi) and its potential applications for infrared optoelectronics, specifically high-efficiency solar cells. During his PhD, he was an author on multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, and presented his work at conferences in the UK and abroad.
Since joining Venner Shipley, Chris has obtained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
