Profile

Ashley is a barrister and has been in practice in technology based areas of Intellectual Property law for over 25 years. He is also a teaching member of the department of Law at Queen Mary, University of London and is a member of the department of Biochemistry at Birkbeck College. Ashley writes a chapter for the CIPA guide and a number of chapters for both The Modern Law of Trade Marks and The Modern Law of Patents (of which he is chief editor).

Ashley has expertise in pharma, patents, PVs, copyright and trademarks (both registration and litigation). Ashley regularly appears before the Courts of the EU and the UK. Ashley has a criminal IP practice and has, save once, never lost a criminal case. Ashley is also recognised as one of the country’s top data protection and cyber security lawyers, is a regular speaker at data protection conferences, advises almost daily and has obtained the only injunction to restrain a denial of service attack. In addition he is qualified in the Republic of Ireland and remains EU qualified. His expertise includes advising large data controllers and data subjects alike and currently coordinates and runs the PDP direct marketing course. He is also an expert in crypto currencies and distributed ledger systems.
