Ricky joined Venner Shipley in 2009 and is training to be a patent attorney. Prior to joining the firm, he was with a firm of patent attorneys in Singapore, working with a broad spectrum of clients ranging from individual inventors and research groups to multinational companies. Besides drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Ricky also has experience in advising clients on patent infringement and validity, providing due diligence and freedom to operate opinions, and prosecuting trade mark applications. In addition, he also has experience with the translation of Chinese patents.

Ricky has expertise in the areas of software and telecommunications, having previously worked as a software engineer in an info-security firm and as a research engineer in a leading Singapore infocomm research institute. He specialises in electronics and software subject matters including telecommunications, semiconductors, microprocessor architectures, Internet protocols and applications, information security and computer networks. Additionally, Ricky takes a keen interest in new technologies and works to keep up-to-date with the latest developments.

Education

Ricky completed both his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. The focus of his postgraduate research was on mobile ad-hoc and wireless sensor networks, particularly the investigation of selfish node behaviour. He also holds a certificate in South-East Asian Patent Drafting (SEAD) from Federation International des Conseils en Propriete Industrielle.
