Jan is a Chartered and European patent attorney, a solicitor (non-practising) and a patent attorney litigator. Jan joined Venner Shipley in 1996 from one of the leading City of London law firms, where he was an intellectual property litigator. Prior to his legal career, he gained industry experience as a control engineer in one of the UK’s leading chemical/pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.
He specialises in the prosecution of patent applications in electronics, software and related fields. Jan enjoys the variety and challenge of working in new fields of technology and was recently praised in the Legal 500 for his technical knowledge. He has experience of a wide range of technical subject matter, ranging from complex internet technologies through to fuel cells. He also has substantial experience of prosecuting applications in business-related fields, where he acts for a leading UK betting exchange as well as an innovative US trading software house.
Jan has extensive experience of European prosecution, opposition and appeal procedures, as well as hearings before the UK Intellectual Property Office.

Education
Jan attended University of Southampton where he gained a first class honours degree in Electronic Engineering. He then completed his Law Society Finals with distinction at Chester College of Law .
