Karen joined Venner Shipley in 2008 and she is a part-qualified patent attorney. She has been involved in filing and prosecuting patent applications, as well as assisting with IP portfolio assignments and due diligence reports.
Karen takes an active interest in the ever-changing landscape of intellectual property law and practice and participates in the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Academy distance learning programs.

Education
Karen attended the University of Cambridge where she completed a Masters degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Biochemistry after which she studied at the Institute of Molecular Pathology, Vienna, Austria where she attained her PhD in Molecular Biology. Karen’s doctoral research focused on the field of X chromosome inactivation. She used transgenic mice embryonic stem cells as a model system to investigate the in vivo dynamics of Xist RNA. Her technical competency extends across a wide range of life sciences technologies, especially in fields of RNA biology, stem cell biology and microscopy. In particular, she provided technical assistance on the RNA fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) technique.
