A Chartered and European patent attorney with broad experience, Paul entered the patent profession in 1994 as a Patent Examiner at the UK Patent Office. Paul joined Venner Shipley in 2002, having worked previously in the patent department of a large, multi-national electronics and defence company and for another firm of patent and trade mark attorneys in London.
Paul specialises in inventions relating to mobile telecommunications, software and business methods, digital electronics, storage area networks, lighting control systems, RF circuits, antennas, computer peripherals and satellite positioning systems. For more than twelve years he has been involved in drafting patent specifications and prosecuting patent applications directly before the UK and European patent offices, and before the US, Chinese, Korean and Japanese patent offices through associates. Building on his patent procurement experience, Paul has conducted numerous oral proceedings in opposition and appeal cases before the EPO.
Paul considers education and training to be of the utmost importance. A number of Paul’s articles have been published in the press, and he was honoured to be selected to provide law and skills tutoring to in-house patent professionals of a multinational client company. Paul is involved in the setting of the finals patent examinations which lead to qualification as a UK patent attorney.

Education
In 1994 Paul completed an honours degree in Electronics at Cardiff University before undertaking his certificate in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary, University of London in 1998.
