Thailand accedes to the PCT
This article was included in our Winter 2009/10 edition of Inside IP magazine.
On 24th December 2009, Thailand will accede to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Thailand will be automatically designated in any international (PCT) application that is filed on or after this date. Furthermore, nationals and residents of Thailand will themselves be able to file PCT applications.
The accession of Thailand will bring the total number of PCT contracting stares to 142. The PCT facilitates the filing of patents in multiple countries and can help delay entry into the national and regional phase of the contracting states by about 18 months.
