Stephen is a graduate in Chemistry of the University of London, King's College, where he won the Style Prize for Practical Chemistry, and also has a DPhil in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oxford. He is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney, as well as a Chartered Chemist and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. His doctoral research was on penicillin biosynthesis and encompassed fields of ß-lactam chemistry, enzymology, monoclonal antibody technology and genetic engineering. Before joining Venner Shipley, he worked as a technical assistant in a leading firm of London solicitors. Stephen specialises in the filing and prosecution of patent applications relating to biotechnology. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
