Graduate Recruitment

We recruit a small number of graduates each year to train as Chartered Patent Attorneys and European Patent Attorneys or Registered Trade Mark Attorneys depending on current requirements. Our benefits and training package is highly competitive and career prospects within the firm are excellent. Many professionals in our practice have been trained by us and have followed careers in the firm after qualification.

Patent attorney trainee

We seek graduates with a good honours degree and possibly a postgraduate qualification in a mainstream scientific or engineering discipline who can demonstrate:

• a passion for technology and law;

• exceptional analytical abilities;

• well-developed communication skills; and

• a basic knowledge of French and/or German.

Actual disciplines will vary from year to year. Training for Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney examinations will usually take four to five years.

Trade mark attorney trainee

We seek graduates with a good honours degree who can demonstrate:

• commercial awareness of the value of intellectual property;

• excellent communication skills; and

• knowledge of at least one European language.

Qualification as a Registered Trade Mark Attorney is expected after three to four years' training and examinations.

Training

Training is by partner supervision and tutorials within the firm, and also by attendance at lectures, courses and tutorials organised by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys or the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and elsewhere.

We send our trainees to study full time for the Certificate in IP Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary College, University of London. This provides exemption from the foundation papers of both the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.

We will also consider high calibre qualified staff from industry or other firms if they can demonstrate a track record of competence and success.

We are an equal opportunities employer.

If you are interested in a career with us, please send a copy of your curriculum vitae with a covering letter, including a brief summary of why you think you would make a good patent or trade mark attorney to Dr. Stephen Killin, Recruitment Partner, at our London office. skillin@vennershipley.co.uk
