Patents
Patent advice for the financial services industry is provided by attorneys from our electronics & engineering group. With knowledge of the different legal requirements around the world, and the strategies that work best, our attorneys have a proven track record in this area.
We have extensive experience in filing and prosecuting applications directed to trading systems and products, as well as in the fields of gaming, betting and ancillary technologies.
With inventions in this sector it is possible that the 'computer program' and 'business method' exclusions from patentability in European patent laws will come into play. In many circumstances, framing the invention suitably in the patent specification is all that is needed to persuade an examiner that the invention is not excluded from patentability. We have a considerable record of success in written examination and opposition proceedings and before the EPO at oral proceedings.
Trade Marks
Venner Shipley have a number of clients operating within the financial services sector, all of whom benefit from our wealth of experience and specialist knowledge in this area.
